In comparison to the US’ occupation of Baghdad, the Ruskies have a greater reason for protecting Ossetia than the yanks do in protecting the Iraqi oil ministry from Iraqi nationals! If McCain and his GOP want to stay in Iraq for a 100 years, I hope the Russians do the same in Tsblisi, Georgia!

S Ossetia as well as Abkhazia are integral parts of Georgia, and ethno-conflicts are results of Russia’s imperialistic mentality and politics: Russia provoked separatism as a weapon against Independence of post-soviet countries for taking the control over them through manipulating the conflicts when necessary.

You guys have nothing else to discuss? Come on, look around - there are very interesting and important discussion on Wi-Fi (wireless internet), microwaves, cell phone radiation and electro smog…The frequency of microwave ovens and the frequency of Wi-Fi, the rise of Electro smog in recent years, how does microwaves behave, “Hot Spot”, Orange, Health issues related to cell phone towers, global coverage, schools getting new laptops with Wi-Fi and SSD drives, etc etc etc.

It was just cynical to tell that Russia had a right on peace-kipping mandate in these regions. Not Abkhazia and Osetia are sides in this conflict, but Russia, and I believe the world will see Abkhazian and Osetian separatists leaded by Kokoiti and Bagapshi condemned by their own people… and, please, who tells that Georgians begin the conflict this time? Just Kremlin?

Th only thing sad about all this is that the Russians didn’t go all the way and arrest the lunatic Saakashvili. This would have got rid of this Murdering, vote rigging, media destroying economic puppet and made life for the rest of Georgians a lot better. Georgians die while his family is on holiday in Ukraine.

There is no ‘moral’ killing (I mean ‘war’, which is nothing else but a massacre of the opponent).
No body can hide the blood on his hands. But some time it happens that the universal moral values give our sympathy to one or another killer. And here the winner is clearly Russia! They were teased and humiliated endlessly and merciless after the end of the Cold war in the time when the Winner - US/NATO should have been generous and stretch a helping arm to the looser. On contrary - they start a pure looting in the so called East block. Now they harvest what they planted! Hope there will be a cleaver politicians to rethink the ‘new world order’ and understand that the world is for all of us - not only for a chosen few!

The Georgian nation and Georgian refugees from its breakaway regions, have been waiting for 17 years to return to their homes, but Russian FSB trained leaders of south Ossetia and Abkazia did everything not to bring peace in the region. Georgia had full constitutional right to bring law and order on its world recognized sovereign territory. Russia, who was ready to do everything to stop Georgia form entering NATO, gave Russian passports to thousands of Osetians and abkhazians, and now with a reason to defend its “citizens”, not only has entered and remains in conflict regions, but occupies more than half of Georgia. If even not remembering about bombing and invading the country by occupants, can you justify annexation of the sovereign country if even restoring the order in its own home? We know our history and remember 1921, when sovereign Georgia was annexed by Russia, and now are just surprised when the nave part of the world citizens believe in Kremlin’s tales to justify its imperialistic ambitions and efforts to widen area of influence and avoiding the presence of NATO in the Caucasus Region. With Regards, T.

I would kindly remind, that just “Russian bombs were killing civilians and children” in Chechnya in the nearest past…
What does Russia think about its own autonomies? Will you stop them by “killing civilians and children” again?

The US, NATO and Israel had been arming and training the Georgians for months before they attacked South Ossetia. They were performing military manouvers just a week or so before. The information on the developement of events was on the web all the time. The question was only when would the “Sacred Alliance” decide the attack should take place. Of course the Russians were on their toes and reacted inmediately to the attack. The US-NATO-Israel alliance has put the world at the edge of a nuclear precipice. Greedy, irresponsible maniacs.

Sure the picture is very funny, but isn’t it ABSOLUTELY IMMORAL to think that starting the war, KILLING several thousands of innocent civilians and DESTROYING the capital of S. Ossetia is JUST A KICK?

I assume you are American - please try to imagine that a stronger country comes to you and destroys Washington or New York.
Not just WTC - the whole town.
Do you still consider it just a kick?

If so, please read this, I believe you will find a lot of funny stuff inside: http://community.myfoxny.com/blogs/Estrellita

Max, thus far the poll shows what people tend to trust Russia, and not McCain and the gang, doesnt it?

  4. Max on August 14, 2008 4:41 pm

J., there were only four votes when I posted, and now there are 13 vs. 12, that can’t be treated representative.
And anyway, the distribution the votes has no relation to the picture.
Treating Georgian aggression against Ossetia civilians as just a kick is immoral, no matter how Russia reacted to it.
But I really hope Bush and McCain will not win, as they are going to use the Ossetia tragedy to start the second Cold War.

You stirred quite some disgust on our political discussion forum.

I can tell you one thing everybody there considers it an Invasion what Russia is doing!

  16. Ingo on August 28, 2008 2:41 am

I just read the post linking to this site in the forum. My thoughts:

    1. The comic is annoying at best
    2. I am on nobodies site.
    3. Given that this site is trying to bias us towards voting for Russia, I vote against it.

In all conflicts I’ve seen so far, the guy with the bigger stick is usually the bad guy.

It is the case in the US invasion in Irak and the same looking at Russia’s invasion of Georgia.

And yes, also the Americans had their reasons. Still I didn’t believe them and history proved me right.

  17. Geraldo on August 28, 2008 2:47 am

Reason for the US invade Irak: Weapons of Mass Destruction or Oil?

Reason for Russia to invade Georgia: Peace-keeping or Imperialism?

If Russia wants a free South-Ossetia, why not start by giving freedom to North-Ossetia?

  18. E. on August 28, 2008 7:38 am

    Site editor’s note for Ingo:

    > Given that this site is trying to bias us
    > towards voting for Russia

Mind you, how come we could bias voters? It’s the open poll.

We noticed attempt of Russian surfers (coming from Dirty.ru) to game the poll - it’s a sort of flashmob action for them - but since our core principal is NOT to adjust poll results (I don’t even know how it could be done technically) we didn’t do anything about it.

    Poll results are 100% unedited.

Same for the comments - so far we didn’t decline not a single comment.

Tamaricko, i see you are georgian. So tell me what georgians will do if USA stop supplying you money weapons etc.? Don`t you see that this supplying has just one goal - to surround Russia with military NATO bases. Georgia (and Ukraine) is just a penny in this big game. BTW America is far-far away but Russia is the nearest country. Your leader have sold national georgian interests for US money, and it was a wrong decision. And your, georgian “peacekeepers” start shooting Russian solders at their backs like cowards. THIS WAS YOUR, GEORGIAN AGRESSION AGAINST RUSSIAN PEACEKEEPERS AND OSSETIA CIVILIANS.
And don`t try to use north ossetia and chechnya as an examlpes - these people voted for staying in Russia, they will not sell their souls for dollars as georgians.

Enable to organize free referendum in Chechnya, North Osetia, Ingushetia, Dagestan, Tatarstan, Mordovia, Sakha, Komi, etc.,like Russia did it in Abkhazia and Osetia, and let’s caunt those voting to stay. As for

Why americans so defend Georgia, because they thinks that Georgia is state of USA, some people in state of Georgia, usa was afraid by russian response, they really looked for tanks and russian soldiers at out.funny. I cant understand this site, is it proamerican or prorussian? Because site name is stoprussianaggression, but picture on main page is prorussian. My view point in this war is this big policy of Kremlin and USA, Saakasvili is special CIA project, and they spent a lot of money for it. Georgia is a strategy polygon, people of it are guinea pigs. Because US government never cares and thinks about other people. And this is fact. Look at Afghanistan, Iraq, where US soldiers are killing civilians, bombing children. And Georgia people must be aware it.

Russia have all his rights to protect his citizens in all the world not only in Ossetia. More than 1000 russian civilians and 12 russian UN-peacekeepers were killed by georgian invaders at 8 august. Only after that russian 58th army crossed border and start counterfightening against georgian army. After 5 days of struggle georgians were fully defeated and panically runaway back in Tbilisi. Russian army has stopped his moving and now major part of 58th army is in Russia again. But georgian provocations is continued. Russia has already stopped the war.

  46. Katie Kublashvili on August 31, 2008 7:40 am

Georgia’s invasion of South Ossetia, an act of unprovoked aggression against a sovereign, democratic country, has shown the world exactly what sort of a country the ‘new’ Georgia is. The fall out from the invasion of South Ossetia will be felt around the world for years to come: the Georgian attack directly endangers the security of the west for a number of reasons. The lack of an adequate international response to Georgia’s aggression leaves the door open for a repeat of this scenario. If Georgia is allowed to get away with invading and occupying South Ossetia, it will not think twice before it does again.
Furthermore, if South Ossetia’s democratically elected government is abandoned by those that share its values in the west, then there is no hope for the further spread of democracy and freedom in the world today.

That they have gone to extreme lengths which they have and that it was so devastatingly successfully (at least within Georgia) could be. 62. Truth For Ossetia on November 7, 2008 11:52 pm

The New York Times has an exhaustive story on the Georgian government’s assault on South Ossetia, and the conclusion is unequivocal: “Georgia’s inexperienced military attacked the isolated separatist capital of Tskhinvali on Aug. 7 with indiscriminate artillery and rocket fire, exposing civilians, Russian peacekeepers and unarmed monitors to harm.”

In response, the U.S. State Department now concedes that the Georgian government was wrong to attack South Ossetia.

This report follows new revelations about Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili’s sneak attack on Tskhinvali, the BBC’s report on Georgian abuses, Human Rights Watch’s disclosure of Georgian use of cluster bombs, and our own growing compilation of eyewitness accounts of Georgian abuses before, during, and after the five-day war.

So now the question is: Why is the United States still giving billions of taxpayer dollars in unconditional aid to Saakashvili, rewarding him for what the NYT is now reporting was an indiscriminate attack on civilians?

While it’s good that the media are beginning to take a look at what really happened during the Georgian government’s assault on South Ossetia, it is time for the American government and people to find out what Georgia’s U.S. trained and equipped military really did.

Sen. Hillary Clinton needs to push her bill S.3567. This bill, which is currently referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee, seeks to examine the causes of the conflict and make recommendations about U.S. policy. Sen. Clinton must ensure that the American people get a full and fair hearing on what happened in August.
